Quran Reading and Writing Program (BTQ) for Indigenous Students of Perak State
Sungkai, 22 December 2016 (Thursday) – The General Manager of the Division of Asset and Waqf Management and Development, MAIPk, Mr. Suhaimi bin Yusoff, officiated the Closing Ceremony of the Qur’an Literacy Program (BTQ) for Indigenous Students of Perak, using the Abahata Al-Jabari method at Felda Residence Trolak, Sungkai. The four-day, three-night program, held from 19 to 22 December 2016, was participated in by 40 indigenous Muslim participants from four districts: Batang Padang, Kampar, Muallim, and Hilir Perak. This program is one of the initiatives under the Wakaf Perak Al Ridzuan (WAPAR) project launched on 7 April 2016.
This pioneer program was successfully organized through the collaboration of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk), the Institute of Qur’anic Studies (IPAQ), the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), and the Centre of Qur’anic Research, University of Malaya (CQR UM). The program was enriched with engaging and structured modules, enabling the indigenous community to learn to read the Qur’an more effectively than before.
For those who were completely illiterate in Qur’an reading, they were taught from the very basics using the Abahata Method, which is easier to understand and sparks their interest to continue learning the Qur’an without boredom. Almost all participants showed positive progress: from being unable to recognize Qur’anic letters at the start, they were eventually able to identify the characters and read fluently.
This program is a continuation of the Instructor Training Program (LTP) for the Abahata Method, designed for Perak’s missionary groups. Some of the missionaries who had attended that training also served as facilitators in ensuring the success of this program.
The Waqf for the Development and Advancement of Qur’anic Knowledge is an initiative by MAIPk to broaden the dissemination of Qur’anic knowledge in the life of the ummah through teaching, study, understanding, appreciation, and application of the Qur’an across all ages and social backgrounds.
