IPOH, 08 April 2017 (Saturday) – The launching ceremony of the Academic Excellence Programme – Wakaf Ilmu (Mumtaz) was held at the Science and Mathematics Smart Centre through the collaboration between the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) and the Science and Mathematics Smart Centre (PPSM) of the Perak Muslim Students Union (KPIP).
The officiating ceremony was completed by Mr. Suhaimi bin Yusoff (General Manager, Mall and Wakaf Management & Development Division) and was also attended by Tuan Haji Abdul Rahman Najib bin Haji Mohd Noor, Chief Executive Officer of PPSM. In his speech, he informed that MAIPk had contributed RM20,000 in one-off cash waqf for the implementation of the Academic Excellence Programme – Wakaf Ilmu (Mumtaz), which is one of the Mumtaz Programmes under Wakaf Perak Al-Ridzuan.
The programme began on 4 February 2017 with the participation of 38 students. It is conducted every Saturday and Sunday as additional classes for Form 3 students who will be sitting for the PT3 examination. These extra classes will continue until the end of 2017. The participants consist of children of single mothers, poor/needy families, and troubled children selected from several schools in the Ipoh district.
The Academic Excellence Programme – Wakaf Ilmu (Mumtaz) is structured as a guided class programme to foster academic excellence among students through learning outside school hours. Indirectly, it serves as a platform for the development of teaching and learning (T&L), involving the roles of teachers as educators and students as seekers of knowledge. In addition to academic classes, several modules such as Dhuha Prayer, Knowledge Seminars, Motivation Programmes/Excellent Techniques were conducted to strengthen self-discipline and shape students into commendable individuals.
