BAGAN SERAI, 8 December 2016 (Thursday) – A total of 60 students who had just completed the 2016 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination from eleven schools in the Kerian district participated in the Program Mumtaz in Kerian. The program was held over three days and two nights, from 6 to 8 December 2016, at Sekolah Abu Bakar Al Baqir in Bagan Serai.
The English Language Program for SPM 2016 school leavers is one of the initiatives under the Wakaf Perak Al Ridzuan (WAPAR) Project, specifically the Wakaf Ilmu – Program Mumtaz. The program was organized through the collaboration of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk), Scye Global Education Sdn Bhd, and the Kerian District Education Office.
The selected participants were students with an intermediate level of English proficiency. The program provided exposure and deeper understanding of techniques for answering the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) in preparation for higher education, as well as fostering students’ interest in mastering the English language. In addition, training in resume writing and interview techniques was also included.
The Wakaf Ilmu – Program Mumtaz held this time was the third in its series, following its successful implementation for UPSR and SPM candidates previously. Kerian district was chosen as the first location for this English program. It will be expanded throughout Perak in the future, given the increasing potential of wakaf (endowment) fund collections in the state.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Mr. Suhaimi bin Yusoff (General Manager of Property and Wakaf Management and Development Division) and was also attended by Mr. Abdul Wahid bin Ramli (Kerian District Education Officer), MAIPk officers, Kerian District Education Office staff, and teachers.
